I grew up outdoors. As a youth, I backpacked and canoed throughout the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. I hiked the mountains of six U.S. states and the Canadian Rockies. When the snow fell, I traveled on skis. I traversed the Alaskan Juneau Icefield on skis and led three expeditions in the eastern Canadian Arctic. At different stages of my life, I’ve enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, rock climbing, caving, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing.
I was active in search and rescue (SAR) for a dozen years, as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and trainer of successful search dogs. I was the Chief of a nationally respected SAR team and have operational proficiency in incident command, search management, strategies and tactics. My dogs and I have responded on over 140 missions.
I presently hail from east Tennessee. In my spare time, I still enjoy hiking with my retired service dogs, fly fishing, kayaking, and on the move outdoors by many means of travel.
What clients are saying…
“Great Special Report, Charles. Communicating honestly and with integrity is the best way to market to Engineers, Scientists and other intellectuals. They see right through anything less. I agree that “diverse content” is key to addressing the needs of the decision committee.”

“I always love it when I find a writer who takes feedback with grace. Even better, when I find a writer who immediately understands and applies the feedback to make their work stronger. Chip Laymon is one of those rare writers. He delivers good work that is clearly written and well organized. I look forward to working with him in the future.”
